Greetings Delaney Families,

This week our Transitional K students successfully moved to full days, all students in Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two completed their second round of DIBELS testing, teachers worked collaboratively to learn more about common assessments and our professional book group met once again to discuss readings in Pathways to the Common Core.  It's been a great week and we're looking forward to doing it all again next week.

Let’s show our pride as we cheer on all of our athletes as they compete in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia!
On Thursday, February 6, wear your favorite patriotic gear….wear red, white and blue….show your PRIDE!
GO Team USA!!!

Positive Referrals!!!

The following students received Positive Referrals as a result of their outstanding behavior and choices.  Kids were recognized for their kindness, compassion for others, lending a helping hand without being asked, and exhibiting phenomenal manners. Great job boys and girls.  We are so proud of you!!!

Spirit Day Update - Food Pantry Donations

Thank you to all who contributed non-perishable items as part of our first Spirit Day back in November.  We received a thank you note from the food pantry gratefully accepting the 1,292 1/2 pounds of food that were donated from the Wrentham Public Schools. This latest drive raised the number of pounds of food donated by students and families over the past year to 3,280 lbs.  Wow!!!

Week 20 (January 21-24)

Happy Friday Delaney Families,

After a week of freezing cold weather and inside recesses, we are all ready for some warmer weather.  Keeping our fingers crossed that maybe next week will bring some our way!

Today, January 24th, marks the close of the 2nd quarter and our mid-way point in the school year.  It's hard to believe that half of the school year is already behind us. Mrs. Sabatini's third graders marked this day by celebrating in true "half-way" style.  Building off knowledge they've been gaining studying about fractions, they embraced the HALF-WAY mentality with half hair-dos, half painted faces and much much more.  Check out some of the creative ways they demonstrated what one half represents!

Report Cards - Term 2

Teachers will be working on report cards over the next couple of weeks and will be sending them home on Friday, February 7th.

Students in Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two are working this week and next on the second round of DIBELS assessments.  The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.

Spirit Day
Thanks to everyone who donated new hats, mittens and coats as part of our second Spirit Day of the school year.

Students and staff did an outstanding job today wearing all sorts of different moustaches.   Great job everyone showing your school spirit!  Enjoy the photos.

This week in Mrs. Pitman and Mrs. Maxwell's class...

The students were visited by a very special guest! Haesoo Shin, a high school history teacher from Korea who is staying with one of Mrs. Pitman and Mrs. Maxwell's students for the week, stopped by the classroom.  She taught the students a little about the Korean culture and how to write their names using Korean symbols.

The students are holding up their names that they copied off of the board.

Week 19 (January 13 - 17)

Greetings Delaney Families!
We hope that you had a wonderful week.  We sure did!  Please enjoy this edition of the blog.

Thank You Mrs. Rouse!

At Tuesday night's School Committee meeting, School Committee member Michelle Rouse announced her resignation.  Mrs. Rouse has served on the Wrentham Elementary Schools School Committee for the past 8 years.  Mrs. Rouse always placed the students at the center of every decision she made.  She was a true champion and supporter of high-level academics and educating the whole child at the Wrentham Public Schools.

The School Committee is currently looking for someone to fill Mrs. Rouse's seat.  Interested individuals may send that letter to the Superintendent of Schools office at 120 Taunton Street.  Those who apply will be asked to attend a meeting with the School Committee on Tuesday, January 21st at 6:00 pm at the Town Hall followed by a meeting with the Board of Selectmen and School Committee that same evening.  If you have any questions, please contact Chris Martes, Interim Superintendent of Schools, at 508-384-5439.

Patriots Spirit Day!!!

Spirit Day Collection
For our Term 2 Spirit Day, the Wrentham Public Schools will be collecting new winter jackets, hats, or gloves/mittens between now and Friday, January 24th.  It is our hope that the items collected will help provide children with warm winter gear for the cold winter months.  Bins are set up in the Delaney and Annex lobbies for your convenience.

Mustache Day
On Friday, January 24th, students are encouraged to wear mustaches to show their school spirit.  Although participation is voluntary, we "mustache" you to join in the fun!

No School - January 20th
As a reminder, there will no school on Monday, January 20th in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School will resume on Tuesday, January 21st.  See you then!

Principals Coffee
A Principals' Coffee will be held on Friday, January 24th at 8:30 a.m. in the Vogel Auditorium.  We would like to invite you to come and spend some time with Dr. Peterson and Mr. Grenham and learn about the 2013-2016 School Improvement Plan. Be on the lookout for a reminder/informational notice coming home next week.

Congratulations and great job to the Advanced Band!  On Wednesday, they performed for the entire school as well as their families in the evening.  The music was fantastic and all of the students enjoyed the performance. Thank you to Ms. Salazar for her outstanding leadership.

Students in Mrs. Nunes' Kindergarten class were asked to bring in items that float as part of their science lesson.  Great comparisons were made between sinking and floating items.  Check out some of the wonderful pictures forwarded from Mrs. Nunes.

On January 27th, students in Transitional Kindergarten will be moving from half days to full days.  In addition, this is also the mid-year switch for half year specials.  Delaney students will complete their time with Mrs. Drake in health during the week of January 20th and begin art classes with Mrs. Lovely starting on January 27th.
