February 15, 2013

Dear Wrentham Families,

Over the past two weeks, we've celebrated the 100th day of school, successfully weathered the Blizzard of 2013, learned about keeping our teeth and bodies healthy, demonstrated exceptional behavior, created science projects, worked cooperatively together, and done so much more!  It's a good thing that next week is vacation (Parents - Mark Your Calendars - No School - February 18th - 22nd).  We need to rest!

Enjoy some photos of the kids hard at work (and play)!

February is Dental Health Month
Thank you to Dental Associates of Walpole for presenting to our Kindergarten and First Grade students.  We learned about brushing and flossing and the importance of choosing healthy snacks.  We even got to take home a bag of goodies that included a new toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a fun book.

The Phases of the Moon

As part of the third grade science unit, the kids learn about the sun and the moon.  Check out these fantastic and delicious "phases of the moon" projects. Yum!

As a project with Heights Elementary School in Sharon, Mr. Hughes' 3rd grade class collaborated with another third grade class on a project centered around the book The Last of Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews Edwards.  Groups in each class had to draw and describe what they thought a Whangdoodle looked like.  They then exchanged descriptions with the Heights and got to see what the Sharon students created. The project culminated with a Skype session with Heights where students go to ask questions and meet the other students.

Positive Referrals

Congratulations to the following students who received Positive Referrals!  We are so proud of each and every one of them!

Positive Referral Breakfast
On Friday, February 15th, children who received Positive Referrals in the months of November, December, and January were recognized at the 2nd breakfast of the school year.  We had a phenomenal turnout!  Thank you to all of our teachers and families who support this program and the wonderful students who continuously exhibit amazing choices and behavior.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Congratulations to the children in Mrs. McNeal's first grade class.  Together, they made over 100 words using the letters in Valentines.  The previous record was 66 words!  Great job boys and girls!

Pictured below are Kindergarten students who wrote Valentine's Day letters to their loved ones.  They then hand delivered their letters to the Wrentham Post Office.

The 100th day of school fell on Thursday, February 7th and boy, did we celebrate! There were centers, games, projects, and we even had a 100 year old Kindergarten teacher in our midst.  Check out Mrs. Swartzendruber and some of the great projects and activities that occurred.

HOORAY for outside recess!!!

February 1, 2013

Hello Delaney Families,
It's been another busy week at the Delaney School.  Our Transitional Kindergarten students successfully switched over to their full day schedule and our K-3 students started up their half year of art with Mrs. Lovely.  We survived the crazy weather of the week; enjoying a few warm days and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend (although we all wish we would be watching the Patriots play on Sunday)!

The second and third grade girls are very excited about tonight's Father/Daughter Dance. Thank you to the PTO for hosting this wonderful event.  Have a great time ladies!

Preschool Informational Night
When:  Wednesday, February 6th - 6:30 p.m.
Where:  Vogel Auditorium
What:  Parents will attend a brief presentation in the Vogel                                                     Auditorium to learn about our preschool program, Project Blossom.  Everyone will then be invited to walk through the preschool classrooms and chat with the teachers.

The 100th Day of school is quickly approaching! Classes will celebrate with a variety of themed activities on Thursday, February 7th.

Mark Your Calendars...
School will be closed for February vacation (February 18th - 22nd).

WEST will be raising money for...
 Dancing with the Wrentham Stars!

Our own Dr.Marsden is one of six local “stars” paired up with a
professional dancer to participate in a fun and friendly fundraising and dancing
competition. The Stars are competing for two awards, The People’s Choice Award
and The Judges’ Choice Award.
The People’s Choice Award will be presented to the Star who receives the most
votes!

How Can You Help?

Buy a Star-- Monday, February 4th through Friday, March 8th.
Stars will be available for $1 each in the 3 school offices.  Supporters can purchase a star and put their name on it.  One star equals one vote for Dr. Marsden at the dancing competition.  The stars will be displayed in the school lobbies until March 8th. All stars will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an electric razor scooter.

Coin Challenge --From Monday, February 4th through Monday, February 11th.
WEST will be having a school-wide coin challenge during lunchtime in the cafeterias.  Each grade will have a bucket to place spare change in.  All pennies and paper money will be added to a grade level's total.  Silver money will be subtracted from the total.  Students are urged to put pennies in their own grade's bucket and silver change in another grade's bucket.  Teachers will have a bucket too.  There will be a prize for the grade with the highest total at the end of the competition. WEST members will be available throughout lunch to help with the process.

Supporters can also make a direct donation to WEST on Dr. Marsden's behalf.  All donations will be used to "purchase votes" for Dr. Marsden on the night of the competition.

100% of the money collected from all of these fundraisers will go directly to WEST.

Thank you in advance for your support!

As always, thank you for reading.  See you next week!
Sincerely,
Melissa D. Peterson
