April 26th

Greetings Delaney Families,

We're back from vacation and moving full steam ahead towards May! Please take a moment to check out some great pictures of the Delaney students this week.

The Scholastic book fair will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (April 30-May 2) next week during the school day. This year's theme is Reading Laboratory. Parents are invited to come with their children on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. at which time YOU can be a scientist, do your own laboratory experiment, and maybe pick up a book or two! On Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m.  - 8:10 a.m. the book fair will also be open for shopping and yummy breakfast treats!

Check out the online book fair at www.scholastic.com/fair until March 14th!

Mark Your Calendars!
The Delaney School Art Show for students in K-3 will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Delaney Cafeteria. All are invited to come enjoy the art work and visit with friends.

What's Happening at the Delaney?

Third graders in Mrs. DeTrolio's class got a special treat on Friday.  After learning about different cultures in a recent reading unit, special guest, Mrs. Reidel, came into their class to share some Spanish food and to teach the kids some Spanish words.  As you can see, the kids had a wonderful time.  Thank you Mrs. Reidel!

On Monday, students in Mrs. Bognanno's kindergarten celebrated Earth Day . They learned about materials that can be recycled and what can be thrown in the trash. They also learned about how to help our world and made "litter bugs" out of recycled materials to help us remember to recycle.

Mrs. Young's second graders made corn tortillas after reading The First Tortilla; a legend about the origin of the tortilla from their Reading Street anthology.

Read Across Wrentham

Read Across Wrentham ceremonies were held on Thursday, April 25th to recognize the participation of students in Grades 1-3 who read both in and out of school during the last two months.  Congratulations to Mrs. Riccio's first graders, Mrs. Christy's second graders, and Mrs. Sabatini's third graders for reading the most total minutes in each of their grades.  I would like to thank the entire PTO, Cathy Denholm for spearheading RAW this year, the many volunteers who tallied minutes, the classroom teachers for their support, and the families of Wrentham who encouraged their children to keep reading.  This program would not be possible if not for the efforts of all involved.  Thank you and congratulations to all Delaney readers!

Thanks for checking in this week.
Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Melissa Peterson

April 12th

Dear Delaney Families,

It's hard to believe that we are already into the last quarter of the school year and that summer will be here before we know it.  The next couple of months will be filled with many events and activities.  We look forward to seeing you and thank you in advance for your continued support.

Dates to remember...

April 15th - 19th: No School -- April Vacation
April 30th - May 2nd: PTO Book Fair
May 2nd: Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser
May 14th & 15th: Grade 3 Math MCAS testing
May 27th: No School - - Memorial Day
May 31st: Principals' Coffee - Budget Presentation w/Dr. Marsden

The boys and girls in Mrs. Tuft's class just finished up with their turn doing morning announcements.  They did a fantastic job greeting the school each morning, announcing the daily birthdays, and leading us all in the pledge.  Well done!

Read Across Wrentham Awards Ceremonies
Thank you to the many PTO volunteers who helped make Read Across Wrentham a huge success.  Students who met their reading goal will receive a medal during the closing ceremonies on Thursday, April 25th.  Be sure to check out the blog on April 26th for some photos of the event.

Congratulations to these students in Mrs. McNeal's class.  They all received Positive Referrals for their outstanding behavior.  Each demonstrated acts of kindness to their peers.  Great job girls and boys!

Parental Input Letters

Information regarding Parental Input letters will be sent home on the Monday following vacation (April 22nd).  One page letters will be accepted between April 22nd and May 3rd. For additional information on the student placement process, please click here to view the most recent Principals' Coffee Power Point presentation.

Stephanie Williams

We would like to wish Kindergarten teacher, Miss Williams, good luck on Monday as she prepares to run her first Boston Marathon.  Stephanie is running to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of the six Wrentham students who have been diagnosed with Type I diabetes; one of whom is a former student.  The positive attitudes, braveness, and incredible resiliency that these kids display on a daily basis is an inspiration to us all.  Good luck Miss Williams!

Please save the date for May 2nd, when we will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner to raise help raise funds for the Destination Imagination team of Thomas Cyr, Faye and Melanie Veilleux.    These three students will be competing (for the second year in a row) in Nashville, Tennessee in the DI Global Finals.  There will be donations taken soon via a "Month of May, Prize-A-Day" Calendar give away and a 50/50 raffle.

Thank you so much for visiting the blog this week.  I hope that you all have an enjoyable and relaxing April vacation.

Sincerely,
Melissa D. Peterson
