April 26th

Greetings Delaney Families,

We're back from vacation and moving full steam ahead towards May! Please take a moment to check out some great pictures of the Delaney students this week.

The Scholastic book fair will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (April 30-May 2) next week during the school day. This year's theme is Reading Laboratory. Parents are invited to come with their children on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. at which time YOU can be a scientist, do your own laboratory experiment, and maybe pick up a book or two! On Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m.  - 8:10 a.m. the book fair will also be open for shopping and yummy breakfast treats!

Check out the online book fair at www.scholastic.com/fair until March 14th!

The Delaney School Art Show for students in K-3 will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Delaney Cafeteria. All are invited to come enjoy the art work and visit with friends.

What's Happening at the Delaney?

Third graders in Mrs. DeTrolio's class got a special treat on Friday.  After learning about different cultures in a recent reading unit, special guest, Mrs. Reidel, came into their class to share some Spanish food and to teach the kids some Spanish words.  As you can see, the kids had a wonderful time.  Thank you Mrs. Reidel!

On Monday, students in Mrs. Bognanno's kindergarten celebrated Earth Day . They learned about materials that can be recycled and what can be thrown in the trash. They also learned about how to help our world and made "litter bugs" out of recycled materials to help us remember to recycle.

Mrs. Young's second graders made corn tortillas after reading The First Tortilla; a legend about the origin of the tortilla from their Reading Street anthology.

Read Across Wrentham

Read Across Wrentham ceremonies were held on Thursday, April 25th to recognize the participation of students in Grades 1-3 who read both in and out of school during the last two months.  Congratulations to Mrs. Riccio's first graders, Mrs. Christy's second graders, and Mrs. Sabatini's third graders for reading the most total minutes in each of their grades.  I would like to thank the entire PTO, Cathy Denholm for spearheading RAW this year, the many volunteers who tallied minutes, the classroom teachers for their support, and the families of Wrentham who encouraged their children to keep reading.  This program would not be possible if not for the efforts of all involved.  Thank you and congratulations to all Delaney readers!

Thanks for checking in this week.
Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Melissa Peterson
