Week 25 (March 3-7)

Dear Wrentham Families,
We've been busy this week at the Delaney School.  From Dr. Seuss to Dance-a-thons and a visit from the Secretary of Education, there is a lot to share.  I hope you enjoy this week's edition of the blog.

Reminder...
On Friday, March 14th there is NO SCHOOL for students due to a staff development day.  Please mark your calendars.

On Wednesday, Secretary of Education, Dr. Matt Malone, visited the Wrentham Public Schools. At a reception that included Senator Richard Ross and State Representative Shawn Dooley, he initially met with School Committee members, administrators, and teachers to speak about the current state of education and answer individual questions.  Secretary Malone then toured the Roderick and Delaney Schools visiting classrooms and interacting with the students.

We were extremely excited to have had Dr. Malone visit the Wrentham Public Schools and greatly appreciate the time that he spent speaking with us and seeing the wonderful work of our students and teachers.

Students in Mrs. Beausoleil's class worked with students from Mrs. Pitman and Mrs. Maxwell's class to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. They read One Fish Two Fish and completed graphing, adding, subtraction and patterning activities!

Mrs. Riccio's class...we love your hats!

Senator Richard Ross visited Ms. Horne's third grade class to read The Cat in the Hat. We would like to thank Mr. Ross for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us.

Thanks to a generous grant from WEST, our first grade students were fortunate to receive a visit from illustrator, Ralph Masiello, on Tuesday, March 4th.  Mr. Masiello shared his knowledge and experiences with the kids demonstrating his phenomenal talent.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his visit and we would like to thank Ralph for sharing his illustrations with us and WEST for providing the funds for his visit.

About Ralph Masiello
Ralph was born, raised, and still resides in the state of Massachusetts where he lives with his daughters Alexa and Talia. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, Illustration, 1985), Ralph has illustrated for magazines, newspapers and books, created posters and prints, and shown his fine art paintings in galleries throughout the world. Beginning with The Icky Bug Alphabet Book in 1986, Ralph has become internationally known for the children’s books he’s written and illustrated. Since 1987, he has visited over 2,300 schools all over the world, inspiring children with his life story, humor, and art.

Students in Mrs. Burke's class practiced some of the techniques that they learned from Mr. Masiello after returning to their classroom. Check out their great creations!

The entire third grade attended a Museum of Science presentation entitled "The Science of Sound" on Friday morning.  Thanks to a generous grant from WEST, students were able to hear about and participate in a variety of activities that corresponded directly with their science units.  Thank you to all who made this outstanding experience possible!
